FAQ

What is supported living?

Supported living refers to a type of housing or care arrangement that enables individuals with disabilities, chronic illnesses, or other support needs to live independently while receiving assistance tailored to their specific needs. The aim is to offer a balance between independence and support, allowing individuals to live as autonomously as possible, with help available when needed. Supported living services often include assistance with daily tasks, such as personal care, household chores, managing finances, and accessing community services.

Who do we support?

This type of living is common for people with physical or learning disabilities, mental health conditions, or older adults needing extra help.

Can you tell me more about funding?

Funding for Supported Living service generally comes from a mix of public and private sources. The amount and type of funding available can depend on the individual’s needs, location, and eligibility for various services. Here are the main sources of funding for supported living:

1. Local Authority Funding

In many countries, local government or councils provide funding for supported living services, typically for individuals with disabilities, mental health issues, or other care needs. This is often based on a needs assessment conducted by social services.
The funding can be part of Personal Budgets, Direct Payments, or Individual Service Funds (ISFs). These programs allow individuals to manage the funds themselves or with support to purchase the services they need.

2. Personal Budgets

Personal Budgets are funds allocated to an individual to support their care needs. This can be directly managed by the individual (through direct payments), by a nominated person, or managed by the local authority.
The individual can choose how to spend the budget, including paying for supported living services, personal care, or other essential support.

3. Direct Payments

Direct Payments are an option where individuals receive cash payments from their local authority to purchase their own care services rather than receiving services directly from the council. This empowers individuals to have more control over their care and choose how to allocate the funds for the support they need.

4. Housing Benefit

Housing Benefit may help cover the cost of accommodation in supported living settings. In many cases, people with disabilities or those on low incomes may be eligible for this support to help pay for their rent or housing-related costs.
