Some losses leave a silence that words cannot fill. Earlier this year one of our residents lost a family member they loved dearly. In the middle of that grief they came to us with a quiet request. They wanted something living in the garden, something they could care for and return to. They wanted a place to remember. That wish became a rose.

Together we planted it, and from the very first day the resident has looked after it as their own. Through the summer they watered it and watched over it and saw it grow stronger. Grief does not disappear because a flower blooms. What the rose has given them is somewhere to put that love. It is a place to stop and reflect, and to feel close to someone who is no longer here. Now in late October, when most of the garden is beginning to fade, the rose is still flowering in deep reds and soft pinks. The resident is so proud of it, and every one of us who has watched this journey shares that pride.

This is what care means to us at Salome Care. It is not only medication, routines and support plans. It is noticing what a person needs in their hardest moment and making room for it with dignity and respect. The name Salome is associated with tranquillity and harmony, and nothing in our home captures that better than this one rose bush. It stands as a reminder that healing can grow from loss when someone is given the time, space and support to tend it. We are deeply grateful to our resident for allowing us to share their story.
